AD Word Family Mini Book

This AD word family mini-book helps children practice segmenting and blending onset and rime to build strong spelling skills.

How to use AD word family mini-book:
Cut the pages following the dotted line. Fold four sheets and staple them.
Step 1. Ask the child to read the rime … -ad on the cover, then open the book.
Step 2. Ask the child to look at the picture and say the word aloud – BAD. Ask the child to read and trace the rime -ad.
What letter spells the short vowel sound /a/? (a) Write the letter a.
What letter spells the sound /d/? (d) Write the letter d.
Step 3. Next, ask the child to say the first consonant sound (onset) in the word BAD and then the rest of the word.
/b/ … -ad
Turn the page and move to the next word. Optional, ask the child to orally generate one sentence using the word BAD.
