BIG Worksheet – IG Word Family

This BIG worksheet has seven phonemic activities for kids to work on, allowing them to segment, read, and spell CVC words. This activity sheet is so quick and easy; just print and go!

Activities in this worksheet.
Phoneme by phoneme segmentation. Ask the child to look at the word BIG and say it sound by sound: /b/ /i/ /g/. Ask him how many sounds he hears. Reread the sounds, but this time slide the finger across the arrow as he reads the word BIG. Ask the child to look at the words on the left. Let him find and circle the word BIG.
Spelling. Ask the child to trace the word BIG. First, trace the letter that spells the sound /b/. Then, trace the letter that spells the sound /i/. Finally, trace the letter that spells the sound /g/. Ask the child how to spell the word. B-I-G.
Onset/rime segmentation.. Now, look at the word on the left. Ask the child to say the first sound and then the rest of the word: /b/ … -ig. Ask him to write the missing rime to finish the word.
Reading. Ask the child to read two sentences and highlight the word BIG.
Writing. Ask the child to think about the word BIG and how to use it in different situations. Let him write one sentence and share it with other kids.
