Worksheet

Blending AM Family Words

When children use segmenting while reading, they look for parts they know in words. Splitting a word into parts helps them spell the word. Consonant-vowel-consonant (or CVC words) are the easiest to break into parts. Children practice segmenting and reading words from AM word family with this worksheet.

How to use this worksheet:
Step 1. Ask the child to say the sounds in the word and finger-tap each letter to sound it out. /h/ /a/ /m/
Step 2. Next, ask to repeat the sounds, but this time slides the finger across the arrow as they read the sounds. Ask how many sounds are in the word HAM. (three)
Step 3. Ask the child to cut out pictures at the bottom and glue the HAM picture next to the word.
Move to the next word.
