Word ladders are great for building decoding, spelling, and vocabulary skills. Kids examine the sound-letter relationship when changing one or two letters to make a new word.
Look at the word at the bottom. Say the word sound by sound: /b//i//d/. Say the word as a whole. (bid) Look at the picture. Say the word. (bed) Which sound has changed? (middle) Say this sound. (/e/) Color the dot under the picture. Write the letter that spells the sound /e/ to complete the word. Repeat all words. Optional, color the ladder and pictures.
