CVC Word Mapping – FOG Worksheet

With this worksheet, young readers practice mapping CVC words. The word FOG has an o between two consonants. When the word follows this pattern (CVC), the vowel represents the short sound. The letter o stands for the /o/ sound.

How to use this worksheet:
Step 1.Ask the child to read the word FOG three times, and finger-tap the dot under the word as he read it.
Step 2. Now, ask him to say the sounds in the word FOG: /f//o//g/. Repeat the sounds again. This time, ask the child to place a chip in a box for each sound he hears. Ask him how many sounds are in the word FOG.
Step 3. Ask the child to write the letters for each sound under the boxes. Let the child write the letter that spells the sound /f/. Then, write the letter that spells the sound /o/. And finally, write the letter that spells the sound /g/. Ask the child to spell the word letter-by-letter: F-O-G. Ask the child to count how many letters are in the word FOG.
