This ED word family mini-book helps children practice segmenting and blending onset and rime to build strong spelling skills.
How to use ED word family mini-book:
Cut the pages following the dotted line. Fold four sheets and staple them.
Step 1. Ask the child to read the rime … -ed on the cover, then open the book.
Step 2. Ask the child to look at the picture and say the word aloud – BED. Ask the child to read and trace the rime -ed.
What letter spells the short vowel sound /e/? (e) Write the letter e.
What letter spells the sound /d/? (d) Write the letter d.
Step 3. Next, ask the child to say the first consonant sound (onset) in the word BED and then the rest of the word.
