This IP word family mini-book helps children practice segmenting and blending onset and rime to build strong spelling skills.
How to use IP word family mini-book:
Cut the pages following the dotted line. Fold four sheets and staple them.
Step 1. Ask the child to read the rime … -ip on the cover, then open the book.
Step 2. Ask the child to look at the picture and say the word aloud – DIP. Ask the child to read and trace the rime -ip.
What letter spells the short vowel sound /i/? (i) Write the letter i.
What letter spells the sound /p/? (p) Write the letter p.
Step 3. Next, ask the child to say the first consonant sound (onset) in the word DIP and then the rest of the word.
