This OT word family mini-book helps children practice segmenting and blending onset and rime to build strong spelling skills.
How to use OT word family mini-book:
Cut the pages following the dotted line. Fold four sheets and staple them.
Step 1. Ask the child to read the rime … -ot on the cover, then open the book.
Step 2. Ask the child to look at the picture and say the word aloud – DOT. Ask the child to read and trace the rime -ot.
What letter spells the short vowel sound /o/? (o) Write the letter o.
What letter spells the sound /t/? (t) Write the letter t.
Step 3. Next, ask the child to say the first consonant sound (onset) in the word DOT and then the rest of the word.
