Segmenting IP Family Words

When teaching children how to blend sounds, it is important that they learn to do so fluidly, moving from one sound right into the next. With this worksheet, children practice segmenting IP family words.

How to use this worksheet:
Step 1. Ask the child to say the sounds in the word and finger-tap each letter to sound it out. /d/ /i/ /p/
Step 2. Next, ask to say the first sound (finger tap the letter) in the word DIP and then the rest of the word (slide the finger across the arrow). /d/ … -ip
Step 3. Now, repeat the sounds, but this time slide the finger across the arrow as the child reads the sounds. Ask how many sounds are in the word DIP. (three)
Move to the next word.

IP family words in this worksheet: hip, zip, dip, lip.

Printing options: in color and black lines.
