Decoding The Sight Word COULD

Orthographic mapping involves the formation of letter-sound connections. It extracts the word’s spelling and stores it in long-term memory as a sight word.

Page 1.
Name the word. Say the word COULD. Ask the child to repeat the word COULD.
Name the individual phonemes. Point out that the word COULD has three phonemes.
Spell each sound. Point out that the word COULD has five graphemes.

Ask the child to trace the letters in the word COULD. Ask him to use green for a predictable spelling pattern and red for an unusual one.
