Decoding The Sight Word FIRST

Orthographic mapping involves the formation of letter-sound connections. It extracts the word’s spelling and stores it in long-term memory as a sight word.

Page 1.
Name the word. Say the word FIRST. Ask the child to repeat the word FIRST.
Name the individual phonemes. Point out that the word FIRST has four phonemes.
Spell each sound. Point out that the word FIRST has five graphemes.
