Decoding The Sight Word RUN

Orthographic mapping involves the formation of letter-sound connections. It extracts the word’s spelling and stores it in long-term memory as a sight word.

Page 1.
Name the word. Say the word RUN. Ask the child to repeat the word RUN.
Name the individual phonemes. Point out that the word RUN has three phonemes.
Spell each sound. Point out that the word RUN has three graphemes.

Page 2.
Ask the child to trace the letters in the word RUN. Ask him to use green for a predictable spelling pattern and red for an unusual one.
