Decoding The Sight Word SOME

Orthographic mapping involves the formation of letter-sound connections. It extracts the word’s spelling and stores it in long-term memory as a sight word.

Page 1.
Name the word. Say the word SOME. Ask the child to repeat the word SOME.
Name the individual phonemes. Point out that the word SOME has three phonemes.
Spell each sound. Point out that the word SOME has four graphemes.

Ask the child to trace the letters in the word SOME. Ask him to use green for a predictable spelling pattern and red for an unusual one.
