Decoding The Sight Word THEM

Orthographic mapping involves the formation of letter-sound connections. It extracts the word’s spelling and stores it in long-term memory as a sight word.

Page 1.
Name the word. Say the word THEM. Ask the child to repeat the word THEM.
Name the individual phonemes. Point out that the word THEM has three phonemes.
Spell each sound. Point out that the word THEM has four graphemes.

Ask the child to trace the letters in the word THEM. Ask him to use green for a predictable spelling pattern and red for an unusual one.
