Decoding The Sight Word WE

Orthographic mapping involves the formation of letter-sound connections. It extracts the word’s spelling and stores it in long-term memory as a sight word.

Page 1.
Name the word. Say the word WE. Ask the child to repeat the word WE.
Name the individual phonemes. Point out that the word WE has two phonemes.
Spell each sound. Point out that the word WE has two graphemes.

Page 2.
Ask the child to trace the letters in the word WE. Ask him to use green for a predictable spelling pattern and red for an unusual one.
Ask the child to say the word WE and place a chip in a box for each sound he hears. Ask him how many sounds he hears.
Ask the child to write the letters to make the word WE. Ask the child how to spell the word WE letter by letter.
