Worksheet

UM Family Words And Pictures

This activity helps children blend sounds and read the words. It also allows children to connect UM family words and pictures.

How to use this worksheet:
Cut out UM word family cards following the dotted line. There are two options for each word. Option one gives children support when they blend sounds together. Children slide their finger across the arrow when they read sounds. The vowel sound is highlighted in red to differentiate it from blue consonant sounds. Children who are fluent in blending sounds can use black words without arrows.
Step 1. Mix the cards and ask the child to grab one card (GUM). Ask the child to say the sounds in the word and slide the finger across the arrow as he blends sounds. /g/ /u/ /m/ Ask the child to say the word as a whole – GUM.
Step 2. Next, ask to find the corresponding picture and place the word GUM on top.
Move to the next word. Let the children read and place CVC words first (exclude other cards). Children fluent in CVC words can blend and read CCVC words.

UM family words and pictures: mum, gum, sum, glum, hum, drum, chum.
Children fluent in CVC words (yum, gum, hum, sum, mum) can practice more complex words (glum, drum, chum).

Printing options: in color, outlines, and black lines.
