Short A Word Ladder 4

Word ladders are great for building decoding, spelling, and vocabulary skills. Kids examine the sound-letter relationship when changing one or two letters to make a new word.

Look at the word at the bottom. Say the word sound by sound: /k//a//b/. Say the word as a whole. (cab) Look at the picture. Say the word. (mad) Which sound has not changed? (/a/) Which sounds have changed? (first and ending) What sounds do you hear now? (/m/ and /d/) Color the dost under the picture. Write the letter that spells the sound /a/ to complete the word. Repeat all words. Optional, color the ladder and pictures.
