Decoding The Sight Word BLUE

Orthographic mapping involves the formation of letter-sound connections. It extracts the word’s spelling and stores it in long-term memory as a sight word.

Page 1.
Name the word. Say the word BLUE. Ask the child to repeat the word BLUE.
Name the individual phonemes. Point out that the word BLUE has three phonemes.
Spell each sound. Point out that the word BLUE has four graphemes.

Ask the child to trace the letters in the word BLUE. Ask him to use green for a predictable spelling pattern and red for an unusual one.
