Decoding The Sight Word FAR

Orthographic mapping involves the formation of letter-sound connections. It extracts the word’s spelling and stores it in long-term memory as a sight word.

Page 1.
Name the word. Say the word FAR. Ask the child to repeat the word FAR.
Name the individual phonemes. Point out that the word FAR has two phonemes.
Spell each sound. Point out that the word FAR has three graphemes.

Page 2.
Ask the child to trace the letters in the word FAR. Ask him to use green for a predictable spelling pattern and red for an unusual one.
