Decoding The Sight Word IF

Orthographic mapping involves the formation of letter-sound connections. It extracts the word’s spelling and stores it in long-term memory as a sight word.

Page 1.
Name the word. Say the word IF. Ask the child to repeat the word IF.
Name the individual phonemes. Point out that the word IF has two phonemes.
Spell each sound. Point out that the word IF has two graphemes.

Page 2.
Ask the child to trace the letters in the word IF. Ask him to use green for a predictable spelling pattern and red for an unusual one.
